Symptoms
Assume that a Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1)-based or a Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1-based computer resumes from sleep or hibernation in an IEEE802.1X authenticated network. In this situation, the computer may not obtain an IP address, and you cannot connect to network.
Cause
This issue occurs because new WMI events are dropped after the WMI event queue for size 0x1000 becomes full. Therefore, the components and services dependent on these new WMI events do not function as expected.Note Because of the event are dropped, the Wired AutoConfig service (dot3svc) cannot detect a wired network connection. Additionally, the computer does not obtain an IP address.
Resolution
Hotfix information
A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. If the hotfix is available for download, there is a "Hotfix Download Available" section at the top of this Knowledge Base article. If this section does not appear, submit a request to Microsoft Customer Service and Support to obtain the hotfix. Note If additional issues occur or if any troubleshooting is required, you might have to create a separate service request.
