Symptoms
Consider the following scenario:
-
You have a Server Message Block (SMB) 3.0+ client that accesses files on a scale-out file server that is hosted in a Windows Server 2012 R2-based cluster.
-
A failover cluster node temporarily loses access to a Cluster Shared Volume (CSV) disk, and you encounter the following conditions:
-
The CSV enters the "auto-pause" state.
-
The SMB client connects to a different cluster node and tries to reconnect all the previously opened handles.
-
In this scenario, the failover cluster enters a cluster-wide deadlock that limits cluster availability for two minutes unless the watchdog timer restarts the cluster.
