Symptoms
Assume that you have a Windows 8 or Windows Server 2012-based computer that has a third-party USB 3.0 extensible Host Controller attached. Additionally, assume that the FriendlyName value of the device contains CR/LF characters. In this situation, applications do not query this value.
For example, when Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager tries to collect a hardware inventory of the computer, the operation fails. Additionally, when the System Center Configuration Manager client agent returns the initial inventory report, an error occurs and the inventory is not sent.
