Consider the following scenario:
You have an Active Directory Rights Management Services (AD RMS) server that is running Windows Server 2012 R2.
You add a user account to the user exclusion list in AD RMS.
You remove the user account from Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS). Or, you remove the email address of the user account.
You try to access the exclusion policies interface or use Microsoft PowerShell to configure AD RMS on the AD RMS server.
In this scenario, you may receive one or more error messages that resemble the following:
"An error occurred while obtaining data from the server"
"Active Directory Rights Management Services could not complete the task because an error occurred. This error may be caused by variable conditions."
"Failed to find an entry in the Active Directory: mail."
