Symptoms

You have an ASP.NET Web Application project that is developed in Visual Basic. When you have Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Service Pack 1 (SP1) installed, the IDE may crash in the msvb7!CompilerPackage::StopBackgroundThread method. This crash may occur in the following scenarios:

  • You open the project in the IDE.

  • You add the project to Microsoft Visual SourceSafe.

  • The IntelliSense functionality is processing.
