Precision Imaging Network: The why and the vision
Precision Imaging Network (PIN) addresses the challenges of fragmented imaging AI by providing a unified, enterprise-scale platform. Healthcare organizations often struggle with point-solution AI tools that require separate integrations, contracts, workflows, and governance structures. PIN simplifies this complexity by acting as a cloud-based orchestration platform that connects imaging sources, multiple AI models, and clinical workflows.
PIN's platform approach:
-
Centralizes AI governance and lifecycle management
-
Standardizes workflows and AI result formats
-
Improves scalability across service lines
-
Enables seamless workflow integration for clinicians
PIN helps healthcare organizations move from isolated AI pilots to sustainable, high-impact AI programs by delivering insights where clinicians need them most—without disrupting existing systems.
What Precision Imaging Network is not
To avoid common misunderstandings, it’s equally important to understand what PIN does not replace or duplicate.
PACS systems remain the system of record for imaging storage, retrieval, and diagnostic review. PIN does not replace PACS functionality or disrupt how images are stored and managed. Instead, it works alongside PACS by selectively routing studies for AI analysis and returning results back into PACS‑connected workflows.
Vendor Neutral Archives are designed for long‑term storage and enterprise access to imaging data. PIN does not store primary image archives or manage longitudinal imaging records. Its focus is on AI enablement and workflow orchestration, not archival functions.
PIN does not perform image interpretation itself. Instead, it enables healthcare organizations to operationalize multiple AI algorithms from different vendors using a single, standardized integration framework. This removes the need to build and maintain separate connections for each AI tool.
Benefits of Precision Imaging Network
-
Help shorten time to care with real-time critical result notices and workflow prioritization from third-party AI models.
-
Support radiologist productivity with third-party AI insights that assist with image interpretation and allow automatic insertion of AI-generated insights into reports.
-
Promote better patient care when specialists receive consumable reports and imaging data that help inform clinical decisions, treatment planning, and personalized care plans.
-
Drive improved patient follow-up tracking and program management by extracting and tracking follow-up recommendations from screenings and for incidental findings.
-
Validate and monitor third-party or in-house developed AI model performance by assessing concordance between AI findings and radiology reports.
-
Enable data privacy, protection, and compliance with the solid foundation of Microsoft security culture and governance.
