Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You have an application that uses Image Mastering API v2.0 (IMAPIv2.0) to write data to DVD discs installed on a computer that is running Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008.

  • You use the application to write data to a DVD disc.

  • During the write operation, the DVD disc becomes full.

In this scenario, IMAPIv2.0 does not return an error message to notify the user that data cannot be written to the disc. Additionally, the computer continues to try to write data to the DVD disc.

Note This issue can cause data loss because data is not written to the disc after it becomes full.

Cause

This issue occurs because IMAPIv2.0 uses a single variable to track status values. When a writing process fails, the variable can be overwritten later. Therefore, the issue that is described in the "Symptoms" section occurs.

Resolution
