This article describes an issue in which the iSCSI target service crashes randomly on a Windows Server 2012 R2 server. An update is available to fix this issue. Before you install this update, see the Prerequisites section.

Note This update applies to the server products that are listed in the "Applies to" section and have the iSCSI Target Server role installed.

Symptoms

This issue occurs when the following conditions are true:

  • Windows Server 2012 R2-based computer that has the iSCSI Target Server role installed.

  • The iSCSI target server encounters random I/O error.

In a rare chance iSCSI target may crash in this scenario because of a race condition in how iSCSI target finishes the failed I/O.

How to get this update

  • The MANIFEST files (.manifest) and the MUM files (.mum) that are installed for each environment are listed in the "Additional file information" section. MUM, MANIFEST, and the associated security catalog (.cat) files, are very important to maintain the state of the updated components. The security catalog files, for which the attributes are not listed, are signed with a Microsoft digital signature.
