Symptoms

When you create or rebuild columnstore indexes in SQL Server 2016, you receive an error message that resembles the following:

Error: 3628, Severity: 16, State: 1.
The Database Engine received a floating point exception from the operating system while processing a user request. Try the transaction again. If the problem persists, contact your system administrator.


Resolution

The issue is fixed in the following cumulative updates for SQL Server:

Each new build for SQL Server 2016 contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous build. We recommend that you install the latest cumulative updates for SQL Server:
