KB4046638 - Add the ability to disable or enable a few new DMVs and DMFs introduced in SQL Server 2017

Summary

SQL Server 2017 introduces the following new dynamic management views (DMVs) and dynamic management functions (DMFs):

  • sys.dm_os_enumerate_fixed_drives

  • sys.dm_os_enumerate_filesystem

  • sys.dm_os_file_exists

The above DMVs and DMFs are currently enabled by default, this update allows you to disable them by using the following T-SQL statement:

sp_configure 'show advanced options', 1; 
GO
RECONFIGURE;  
GO  
sp_configure 'SMO and DMO XPs', 0;  
GO  
RECONFIGURE  
GO

Similarly, you may enable those DMV and DMFs by using the following T-SQL statement:

sp_configure 'show advanced options', 1; 
GO
RECONFIGURE;  
GO  
sp_configure 'SMO and DMO XPs', 1;  
GO  
RECONFIGURE  
GO
