This improvement enables Hybrid buffer pool read caching in Microsoft SQL Server 2019. This includes the following features:

  • Access to read-only pages in persistent memory is tracked.

  • Hot read-only pages are migrated to DRAM-based buffer pool.

  • Access is allows to hot data at DRAM speeds.


Direct access to data in persistent memory is a little slower than access to data in the DRAM-based buffer pool.
