Symptoms

Assume that you install SQL LocalDB 2016 Service Pack 1 (SP1) or Service Pack 2 (SP2). The enumeration of the LocalDB versions that are installed on the computer stops, and an error occurs.

You receive the following error message if this fix is not applied:

  • After you install SQL LocalDB 2016 SP1:

          Filepath\SqlLocalDB.exe versions

Windows API call "RegGetValueW" returned error code: 0.

  • After you install SQL LocalDB 2016 SP2 (slightly different from the SP1 message):

          Filepath\SqlLocalDB.exe versions

FormatMessageW failed. Error code returned: 15100
