Symptoms

Assume that you run the WMI command-line (WMIC) utility to delete some user profiles on a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2. In this situation, a memory leak occurs in the Wmiprvse.exe process.

Cause

This issue occurs because a certain object is not released when the WMIC utility tries to delete user profiles.

Note The object is created as a part of an enumeration of user profiles. Additionally, the object is used to map individual user profiles according to security identifier (SID).
