Symptoms

Assume that you use one of the following Realtek network adapters on a computer that is running Windows 8:

  • pci\ven_10ec&dev_8168&subsys_15b110cf&rev_0c

  • pci\ven_10ec&dev_8168&subsys_380217aa&rev_0c

After you upgrade to Windows 8.1, the network connection is not available.  

Cause

This issue occurs because the driver that is included in Windows 8.1 is used instead of the correct driver. 

Resolution

How to obtain this update

This update is applied when you upgrade to Windows 8.1. No interaction is required to apply this update.

Prerequisites

To apply this update, you must be running Windows 8.1.

Registry information

To apply this update, you do not have to make any changes to the registry.

Restart requirement

You must restart the computer after you apply this update.

Update replacement information

This update does not replace a previously released update.
