Assume that you upgrade from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 Preview. At the end of the Windows 8.1 Preview lifespan, you may not be notified to upgrade to the release version of Windows 8.1.

Windows migrates your Windows 8 license to Windows 8.1 on upgrade. This process sets certain policies that prevent the end-of-life notification for the prerelease version from being shown.

No additional action needs to be taken. You can still upgrade to Windows 8.1 when it is available.
