Preview of Monthly Rollup

Improvements and fixes

This non-security update includes improvements and fixes that were a part of KB4462923 (released October 9, 2018) and also includes these new quality improvements as a preview of the next Monthly Rollup update:

  • Addresses the redenomination of local currency that the Central Bank of Venezuela implemented to enter the Bolivar Soberano into circulation.

  • Addresses an issue that makes it impossible to disable TLS 1.0 and TLS 1.1 when the Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) mode is enabled.

  • Addresses an issue related to the date format for the Japanese era calendar. For more information, see KB4469068.

  • Addresses an issue that causes the GetCalendarInfo function to return a wrong value for the Japanese era. For more information, see KB4469068.

Known issues in this update

Symptom

Workaround

After you apply this update, the network interface controller may stop working on some client software configurations. This occurs because of an issue related to a missing file, oem<number>.inf. The exact problematic configurations are currently unknown.

  1. To locate the network device, launch devmgmt.msc. It may appear under Other Devices.

  2. To automatically rediscover the NIC and install drivers, select Scan for Hardware Changes from the Action menu.

a. Alternatively, install the drivers for the network device by right-clicking the device and choosing Update. Then choose Search automatically for updated driver software or Browse my computer for driver software.

After installing this update, users may not be able to use the Seek Bar in Windows Media Player when playing specific files. This issue does not affect normal playback.

This issue is resolved in KB4471318.

After installing this update, the Event Viewer may not show some event descriptions for network interface cards (NIC).

This issue is resolved in KB4489878.

Before installing this update

Windows cumulative updates require that you install the latest servicing stack update (SSU) for your operating system before installing the latest Rollup. This helps to mitigate potential issues while installing the Rollup. 

If you are using Windows Update, the latest SSU (KB3177467) will be offered to you automatically. To get the stand-alone package for the latest SSU, go to the Microsoft Update Catalog
