Symptoms

Assume that you develop an application that uses Cryptography Next Generation (CNG) API to retrieve private key descriptions. You run the application on a Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1)-based or Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1-based computer to retrieve an available private key description. In this situation, no private key description is retrieved. Additionally, the CNG user interface includes the following information:

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article.
