Program icons are missing from network tiles in the Windows Modern UI

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You have a computer that's running Windows 8.1 or Windows Server 2012 R2.
  • You or an administrator apply the Turn off the display of thumbnails and only display icons on network folders policy on the computer.
  • You install a new program.

In this scenario, you see only the colored tile instead of the expected program icon on the Modern UI tiles.

Resolution

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft Support. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.

Prerequisites

To apply this update, you must first have update 2919355 installed on a computer that's running Windows 8.1 or Windows Server 2012 R2.
