Limits for features in Microsoft Copilot Chat

Note

Home, the new starting point in Copilot where Chat and Cowork come together, is still rolling out, so what you see in the Copilot app might be different from what this article describes.

This article applies to Microsoft 365 users without a Copilot license add-on. Users must be signed in with a work or school account.

Fair use limits

Microsoft uses fair use limits for some Copilot features for users without a Microsoft 365 Copilot license. Features, such as image generation, already use limits. We are expanding this approach to additional Copilot Chat features.

Users will be notified in-product if the feature is not available.

Availability of these features may change over time and can vary based on service conditions.

Limits may change over time as the product evolves and new features are introduced to help ensure a reliable experience for all users and to protect service quality. Because service limits can vary, Microsoft does not publish or share specific numeric limits.

Note

You may be unable to use a feature because you've reached a limit. This isn't an error or product malfunction.

If a feature is unavailable because of a limit, Copilot notifies you in the product. Tasks already in progress won't be interrupted.
