Important: This feature is currently rolling out to users and will gradually be made available over the coming weeks. During this time, you may start to see the new functionality in your OneNote and Microsoft 365 Copilot apps. We appreciate your patience as we complete the rollout process.
The Take notes with Copilot feature in OneNote helps you save time and boost productivity by using natural language prompts to gather and create notes. This feature helps you bring your notes into OneNote faster by pulling relevant information from Microsoft 365 documents, messages, and emails directly onto your OneNote canvas with additional options for you to refine your prompts or regenerate alternate responses.
Notes: To use this feature in OneNote on Windows, you must have:
-
A Copilot license (either work or home)
-
A personal notebook that is not shared with anyone else and is synced to the cloud

Refine and regenerate your prompt
If the content generated by Copilot isn’t exactly what you’re looking for, you can refine your prompt or regenerate the response. This helps ensure the results align more closely with your needs.
-
Refine your prompt: After generating content, if it’s not quite right, click the Edit icon next to your prompt.
-
Modify the wording to make your request more specific or provide additional context.
-
Once you're satisfied with the updated prompt, select Generate to get the revised content.

Regenerate your response: If you’d like a completely different version of the generated content, click the Regenerate button.
-
Copilot will create a new response based on the original prompt, offering an alternate perspective or additional options.

If you are happy with the revised wording, select Keep it or you can keep refining the prompt until it produces the desired result.
