Symptoms

When you try to stop the Server service on a computer that is running Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008, the Server service stops responding.

Cause

This issue occurs because a race condition occurs during the oplock processing when you are using Server Message Block (SMB) Version 2 protocol.

Resolution
