Use a screen reader to manage ad settings in your Microsoft account

Microsoft uses your data and preferences to personalize your experiences, send you marketing info, and advertise things you might like. This article guides you on managing the ad settings in your Microsoft account using a screen reader.

Open your Microsoft account dashboard

  1. Go to Microsoft account on your web browser.

  2. Sign into your account. For step-by-step guidance on signing in, go to Sign into your Microsoft account dashboard.

Navigate to the Privacy dashboard

The privacy dashboard will allow you to view and manage your data and privacy settings.

  • On the Microsoft account home page, navigate to the Privacy link in the navigation pane. This action will open the Privacy dashboard.

Note: Before reaching the Privacy dashboard, the site may prompt you to enter your account password. If the two-step verification is enabled in your account, follow the screen reader prompts to complete the verification.

Manage your ad settings

  1. On the Privacy dashboard, select the Review ad settings button under the heading More privacy settings. This will open the Personalized ad settings page.

  2. Navigate to the toggle button under the heading See ads that interest you. The screen reader will announce whether the toggle button is switched On or Off

    1. Toggle the control to modify the setting according to your preference.

  3. Enhance the relevance of the ads shown to you by managing your interests:

    1. Navigate to the element under the heading Choose the things that interest you. This section contains a list of interests as elements, based on your activities.

    2. Expand the element and remove the things that don't interest you.

  4. To manage the sharing of your data with third parties for personalized ads, follow these steps:

    1. Navigate to the toggle button under the heading Share my data with third parties for personalized ads. 

    2. The screen reader will announce the current status of the toggle button. Toggle the control to adjust the setting according to your preference.

  5. For detailed steps on managing the personalized ads on your device:

    1. Navigate to the relevant element based on your device type: Windows 11Windows 10iOS, or Android.

    2. Expand the element to go through the steps to manage ad settings for the selected device.

  6. To know more about the personalized ads:

    1. Go to the heading Questions.

    2. Expand the element and go through the answers to frequent questions about personalized ads.
