Applies ToWindows 7 Enterprise Windows 7 Professional Windows 7 Ultimate

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You use a Single Sign-On (SSO) smart card to log on a Windows 7-based computer in a domain environment. Therefore, you are automatically signed in to all applications that support smart card authentication.

  • You successfully log on to a computer that is running Windows 7 by using a smart card.

  • You try to connect to a wireless network that requires authentication.

In this scenario, you are prompted to enter your personal identification number (PIN) unexpectedly.

Cause

This issue occurs because the Rstls.dll component in Windows 7 does not support the EmptyPinType feature.
