When you try to edit an object in Microsoft Office Visio 2003, you may receive the following error message:

An error (1415) occurred during the action Open Object.

Visio is unable to edit the Visio object.

This problem may occur when you try to edit an embedded object that was created in an earlier version of Microsoft Visio and the drawing was saved as Visio 2003 Drawing (*.vsd).

To work around this problem, save the drawing as Drawing (*.vsd) in the earlier version of Visio. When you open the drawing in Visio 2003, the embedded object will be converted correctly and you can edit the drawing.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section of this article.
