When a hardware error occurs on a Windows device, it shuts down suddenly and might display a blue screen/stop error with the following error message:

WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR

If the blue screen/stop error gives an indication of which hardware device is causing the issue, the drivers for the hardware device causing the issue can be manually updated. For more information, see the following article:

Important: Microsoft recommends trying to first automatically update drivers using Windows Update. For more information, see the article Automatically get recommended drivers and updates for your hardware.

Use one of the Windows options to restore or repair Windows. This option is the best option when a recent change was done to the Windows device that could be causing the issue, for example:

  • Microsoft updates were installed.

  • An updated driver was installed.

  • A new app was installed.
