Symptoms
Consider the following scenario:
- You create a business rule in SQL Server Master Data Services (MDS).
- You restrict the value of the Code attribute in the business rule to be a positive number only.
- You publish a new entry in the MDS Add-in for Microsoft Excel.
In this scenario if the Code attribute contains a leading space, the attribute is invalid and the ValidationStatus column incorrectly displays Validation Succeeded. However when the data is refreshed, the ValidationStatus column correctly displays Validation Failed.

Cumulative Update 6 for SQL Server 2012 Service Pack 3
Cumulative Update 10 for SQL Server 2014 SP1
Cumulative update 3 for SQL Server 2014 SP2
Cumulative Update 4 for SQL Server 2016
Recommendation: Install the latest cumulative update for SQL Server
