Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You have the PolyBase feature installed in SQL Server 2016 and 2017.

  • You have a table that has thousands of partitions.

  • You create a new partition. The column numbers of the new partition are different from the partition already created.

  • You use the schema of the latest partition to create a PolyBase external table.

In this scenario, when you run a query that includes a Boolean field the operation may fail. Additionally, you may receive an error message that resembles the following:

Msg 7320, Level 16, State 110, Line LineNumber

Cannot execute the query "Remote Query" against OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI11" for linked server "(null)". 110802;An internal DMS error occurred that caused this operation to fail.
