Replace Surface Pen tips

If you have a Surface Pen with no clip, a Surface Pen with single button on flat edge, or a Surface Slim Pen 2, you can replace the tips. 

Note: These instructions don't apply to any other Surface Pen models.

Where to get Surface Pen tips

Select one of the following pen models to purchase a set of three tips from the Microsoft Store:

If you want to these get pen tips replaced through your warranty, here's what to do:

  1. Go to Device service and repair and sign in with your Microsoft account.

  2. Select your Surface, then follow the instructions. If you don't see your Surface, select Don't see your device? and follow the instructions to register it.

Note: Our premium Surface Slim Pen 2 is equipped with an easily removable pen tip. Removal is intended only for pen tip replacement. Excessive (500 or more) removal+ reinsertion cycles of the pen tip can damage the internal parts of the pen and lead to inking failures. Pen failure due to excessive removal and reinsertion cycles is not covered under the product warranty.

Microsoft Classroom Pen 

If you have a Microsoft Classroom Pen 1 or Microsoft Classroom Pen 2, purchase your pen tips from your reseller or from independent retailers.

Other Surface Pen models

If your pen doesn't have tips available for purchase, contact us. 

How to replace pen tips

  1. Use something to pull and slide out the pen tip, like tweezers. Pull until the entire tip is removed from your Surface Pen.

  2. Insert the thinnest part of the replacement pen tip into your Surface Pen. Push until the tip locks into place.
