Notes:

  • This is build 16.0.5369.1000 of the security update package.

  • To apply this security update, you must have the release version of Microsoft SharePoint Enterprise Server 2016 installed on the computer.

This public update delivers Feature Pack 2 for SharePoint Server 2016. Feature Pack 2 contains the following feature:

  • SharePoint Framework (SPFx)

This public update also delivers all the features that were included in Feature Pack 1 for SharePoint Server 2016, including:

  • Administrative Actions Logging

  • MinRole enhancements

  • SharePoint Custom Tiles

  • Hybrid Taxonomy

  • OneDrive API for SharePoint on-premises

  • OneDrive for Business modern user experience (available to Software Assurance customers)

The OneDrive for Business modern user experience requires an active Software Assurance contract at the time that the experience is enabled, either by installation of the public update or by manual enablement. If you don't have an active Software Assurance contract at the time of enablement, you must turn off the OneDrive for Business modern user experience.

Improvements and fixes

Customers using Access Services must take additional actions for the feature to continue to work and remain supported.

The Access Services feature in SharePoint Server 2016 has dependencies on certain SQL Server 2012 components that are no longer supported with SharePoint Server 2016. This security update includes changes to the Access Services feature that enable it to be compatible with newer SQL Server components. To make sure that the Access Services feature continues to work and remains supported, Access Services customers should upgrade the following components before they install this security update for SharePoint Server 2016. (These components can also be upgraded after this security update for SharePoint Server 2016 is installed. However, the Access Services feature might no longer work until the components are upgraded.)

After this security update for SharePoint Server 2016 is installed, Microsoft recommends that you uninstall the following SQL Server component from your SharePoint Server 2016 virtual machines because it is no longer used by or supported with Access Services.

  • Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Native Client (sqlncli.msi)

For more information, download Access Services Setup for an On-Premise Installation of SharePoint 2016 and 2019.
