Symptoms

When you use the PolyBase SQL Server connector to create an external table in which the remote database name contains a period ( . ), you receive an error message resembles the following:

105082;Generic ODBC error: [Microsoft][ODBC Driver 17 for SQL Server][SQL Server]Could not find server 'xxxxx' in sys.servers. Verify that the correct server name was specified. If necessary, execute the stored procedure sp_addlinkedserver to add the server to sys.servers.

Resolution

This issue is fixed in the following cumulative update for SQL Server:

Each new cumulative update for SQL Server contains all the hotfixes and security fixes that were in the previous build. We recommend that you install the latest build for your version of SQL Server:
