Symptoms

On a computer that is running Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008, or Windows Server 2008 R2, you experience the following issues.

Issue 1

All the TCP/IP ports that are in a TIME_WAIT status are not closed after 497 days from system startup. Therefore, TCP/IP ports may be exhausted, and new TCP/IP sessions may not be created.Note Some network-related operations to this computer may be affected by this issue. For example, you try to use some remote administration tools to manage a Windows Server 2008-based domain controller that has been running for more than 497 days. In this example, the remote administration tools cannot connect to the domain controller.

Issue 2

TCP/IP chimney offloading fails after 248.5 days. Therefore, systems will stop responding after 248.5 days if offloading connections are being used.

  • The files that apply to a specific product, SR_Level (RTM, SPn), and service branch (LDR, GDR) can be identified by examining the file version numbers as shown in the following table.

    Version

    Product

    SR_Level

    Service branch

    6.0.600 1. 22xxx

Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008

Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 file information notes

Important Windows 7 hotfixes and Windows Server 2008 R2 hotfixes are included in the same packages. However, hotfixes on the Hotfix Request page are listed under both operating systems. To request the hotfix package that applies to one or both operating systems, select the hotfix that is listed under "Windows 7/Windows Server 2008 R2" on the page. Always refer to the "Applies To" section in articles to determine the actual operating system that each hotfix applies to.

  • The files that apply to a specific product, SR_Level (RTM, SPn), and service branch (LDR, GDR) can be identified by examining the file version numbers as shown in the following table.
