Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You install update 968389 on a computer that is running Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008.

  • You run an application that uses the Schannel functions to handle the user authentication requests.

In this scenario, the memory usage of the application keeps increasing.Note This issue occurs if the application calls the InitializeSecurityContext function or the AcceptSecurityContext function.

Cause

The Schannel.dll module does not free the allocated memory space.

Resolution

Hotfix information

Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing. The security catalog files, for which the attributes are not listed, are signed with a Microsoft digital signature.
