If you use Microsoft Copilot with a personal account, you might notice that there’s an updated version of the Copilot app. Read more about updates to the Copilot app.
You can continue to sign in with the same personal account you previously used. Your Copilot chats and other content automatically moves to the updated Copilot app.
If you encounter any issues, use the following troubleshooting information.
Why aren’t my old chats or content showing up?
Your chats and content may still be moving to the updated experience. This can take some time. If something is missing, try the following steps:
Check your account. Make sure you are signed in with the same personal Microsoft account, Google, or Apple sign-in you previously used with Copilot. If you’re using a Google or Apple email, make sure to select the “Continue with Google” or “Continue with Apple” buttons on the sign-in page.
- Restart Copilot. Quit the app and then reopen it. On the web, refresh the page.
- Follow any in-app message(s). If your content is still being moved, you may see a link to access your existing chats.
- Try again later. The time required to complete your update can vary depending on the amount and type of content being moved. Allow some time for this to finish and check again later.
Why are only some of my chats or content missing?
Your chats, images, and most other eligible Copilot content will move with you. However, some features are retired and are handled differently:
- Group Chat threads, messages, and content created in Group Chats won’t carry forward after August 18, 2026. To keep any content, save messages into a document or notes app and download images. Learn more about retiring Copilot features.
- Podcasts is retired and no longer available after August 18, 20206. Learn more about Podcasts being retired.
- Deep Research is retired and no longer available after August 18, 20206. Learn more about Deep Research being retired.
Some features might be temporarily unavailable or you might experience functionality gaps while the latest version of Copilot rolls out.
Why do my devices show different chats?
Moving your data takes time. Allow some time for the data move to complete and sync across your devices. Try these steps in the meantime:
- Check your account on each device. Make sure you are signed in with the same personal Microsoft account, Google, or Apple sign-in on each device.
- Restart Copilot. On each device, close the app and reopen it. On the web, refresh the page.
- Try again later. The time required to complete your update can vary depending on the amount and type of content being moved. Allow some time and check again later.
Why do I see a message that my chats are “coming soon”?
Your account has moved to the updated Copilot app, but your chats and content might still be on the way. You can continue using Copilot while they move. If available, use the link in the app to access your previous chats and content in the meantime.
What if I use Google or Apple to sign in?
Use the same personal email or sign-in option that you’ve used before. If you use Copilot with more than one linked personal account, such as a Google email and a personal Microsoft email, your Copilot history, preferences, and eligible content will be brought together into the updated app through your Microsoft account. No action is required from you. You’ll be able to sign into Copilot with your email and manage your account.
Personal accounts and work or school accounts remain separate. Use the account switcher to confirm that you are viewing the correct account.
Why am I being asked to install another app?
On some devices, the updated Copilot experience is delivered as a new app rather than as an update to the existing app. You might see a message to Install the Copilot app or see the App Store display “Get” or “Install” instead of “Update”.
Where are my files stored?
Files shared and generated within the Copilot app are stored in OneDrive. You can access and manage your Copilot files in the OneDrive app on your desktop or mobile device, or by logging into your Microsoft account. Additional storage capacity is available with a Microsoft 365 subscription.
I use multiple personal accounts, but only one has moved to the updated Copilot app. What about my other accounts?
If you use Copilot with multiple personal accounts, each account may move to the updated Copilot app at different times. If you're having trouble accessing an account that hasn't moved yet:
- Start a new private browsing session.
- Go to copilot.microsoft.com.
- Sign in with the personal account you want to check.
If you're redirected to the updated experience at copilot.com, your account has moved or is completing the move.
If you remain at copilot.microsoft.com, you can continue using Copilot there. Your account will move to the updated Copilot app at a later date.
How do I report a problem?
If you continue to encounter issues, report the problem from the Copilot app:
- Select the ellipsis (…) in the upper right corner of the page.
- Select Send feedback.
- Select Report a problem.
- Provide details that can help Microsoft investigate the issue, including when the problem started, your device and operating system, and a screenshot of the issue.
