ISSUE

The following features have been disabled in volume license installations of PowerPoint 2019 for some specific languages in the April 9, 2024 Office update (version 1808, Build 10409.20028) to prevent a problem that could potentially cause file corruption and data loss.

  • The Display as icon checkbox in the Insert ObjectConvert, and Paste Special dialog boxes.

  • The Create from file option in the Insert Object dialog box.

  • The DisplayAsIcon and Link parameters in the Shapes.AddOLEObject method.

  • Pasting as Picture (Windows Metafile) from the Paste Special dialog box.

  • Pasting as ppPasteMetafilePicture from the Shapes.PasteSpecial and View.PasteSpecial methods.

STATUS: WORKAROUND

The Office team is working on a resolution to be released in a future update that will address the file corruption problem and will restore these features.

As a workaround for the Create from file option, you can create an embedded file by selecting Insert > Object > Create New > Package > OK.

Then, in the Create Package dialog, click Browse... to choose the file you need to embed into the presentation.

Note: This workaround does not support showing a preview of the embedded file or linking to the source file.
