Outlook was also available as part of the Office 365 Small Business Premium and Midsize Business. Microsoft 365 Business Standard will replace these plans over time. Visit your Message Center in the Microsoft 365 admin center for more details on how this impacts you, or talk to your Microsoft 365 provider.

1 In-Place Archive and retention policies require Exchange Server 2013, Exchange Online Archiving (EOA), Exchange Online, or Microsoft 365. Please see the Exchange Online Service Description to find which online plans include this functionality.

2 Apply IRM requires Active Directory Rights Management Services (AD RMS). Please see the Exchange Online Service Description to find which online plans include this functionality.

3 Site mailboxes require Exchange Server 2013 + SharePoint Server 2013, Exchange Online + SharePoint Online, or Microsoft 365. Please see the Exchange Online Service Description and the SharePoint Online Service Description to find which online plans include this functionality.

4 DLP Policy Tips require Exchange Server 2013, Exchange Online, or Microsoft 365. Please see the Exchange Online Service Description to find which plans include this functionality.

5 Archive policies don’t appear in the Outlook 2007 user interface. They can only be deployed or changed by an Exchange Server administrator, Outlook 2007 users can view or change policies only in Outlook Web App (OWA), and only if OWA is enabled.

Without policies, the following is possible:

  • Drag and drop messages to and from the In-Place Archive

  • Copy and paste messages to and from the In-Place Archive

  • Use the Move menu to move or copy messages to the In-Place Archive

  • Create client-side rules to move or copy messages to the In-Place Archive

Users can only perform a search in the selected folder in the In-Place Archive. Also, any search performed using Instant Search in a folder in the primary Exchange Server account — even when All Mail Items is specified — doesn’t return items in the In-Place Archive.

6 Microsoft Office Standard 2010 users can access the In-Place Archive with Outlook Web App (OWA).
