Choose a language

Correction commands

  • Say scratch that to delete the last statement.

  • Say delete that to delete the selected text or last statement.

  • Say undo/redo that to undo or redo the last action.

  • Say select [TEXT] to select a word.

  • Say select [TEXT] through [TEXT] to select a range of text.

  • Say select that to select the last dictated text.

  • Say select first word/last word/next word/select all to select desired text.

  • Say deselect that to deselect highlighted text.

Navigation commands

  • Say go to top to move the cursor to the top of the page.

  • Say Go to bottom/end to move the cursor to the bottom/end of the page.

  • Say Go to beginning of sentence/paragraph to move the cursor to the beginning of the current sentence/paragraph.

  • Say Go to end of sentence/paragraph to move the cursor to end of the current sentence/paragraph.

Editing and formatting commands

  • Say copy that to copy selected text to the clipboard.

  • Say Paste that to paste selected text at your cursor.

  • Say new paragraph to create a new paragraph with a space between the paragraphs (it's like selecting the Enter key twice).

  • Say new line to create a new line (it's like selecting the Enter key once).

  • Say insert before/after [TEXT] to move cursor before or after desired text.

  • Say cap that to capitalize the first letter of each word in the selected text.

  • Say all caps that to capitalize each letter of every word in the selected text.

  • Say Bold that to bold selected text.

  • Say Underline that to underline selected text.

Punctuation

  • Say comma to type ,

  • Say period/Full stop to type .

  • Say exclamation mark to type !

  • Say question mark to type ?

  • Say colon to type :

  • Say semicolon to type ;

  • Say open quote ... Close quote to type " ... "

  • Say open parens ... Close parens to type ( ... )​​​​​​​

  • Say what can I say to open the what you can say menu and see a list of commands.

  • Say open training or show training to open training within Dragon Medical One.

  • Say open help to open Dragon Medical One help.

Dictation box icons and commands

  • Select  page icon with a left-facing arrow or say transfer text to move text in the Dictation Box to where your cursor is positioned.

  • Select  page icon with a right-facing arrow or say recall text to bring back the last transferred text into the dictation box. Note that this does not remove the text from where you moved it.

  • Select  trash can icon or say discard text to clear the contents of the Dictation Box.

Dictation best practices

Follow these best practices for better results in your documentation.

General

  • Start dictating after you turn on the microphone and stop dictating before you shut it off to avoid clipping.

  • Pause briefly before and after saying commands to ensure they are recognized.

  • Speak in full sentences, including punctuation.

PowerMic

  • Hold the microphone in your non-dominant hand so you can operate your mouse while dictating.

  • Press and hold the red talk button to dictate.

  • Release the talk button to stop. Dragon cannot hear you if the microphone is off.

  • Remember to hold the button until you are finished dictating or you may experience clipping.

Headset

  • Position the microphone just below your mouth and approximately 3-5 fingers or 5 cm away from your chin.

  • Select the microphone icon on the DragonBar to talk (the microphone turns green and the icon spins when Dragon is listening).

  • Select the microphone icon again to stop recording.

Manage your vocabulary

Useful vocabulary commands

  • Say add word or add that to vocabulary to open the Add word window with the selected word entered in the add word box.

  • Say manage vocabulary to open the Add word window.

Add words to your vocabulary

  1. Open the vocabulary window. Hint: You can use a voice command or select Manage vocabulary from the DragonBar menu.

  2. Type the correct spelling for the word you want to add.

  3. Select Default Pronunciation or select the microphone icon to train a word. Note: It is not necessary to press the talk button on your PowerMic to train a word.

Manage custom words

  1. Open the vocabulary window > search for the word/phrase to change/train > correct as needed.

  2. Select + to add a new word/phrase.

Templates (auto-texts) and custom commands (step-by-step commands)

Useful voice commands for auto-texts and step-by-step commands

Auto-texts

  • Say manage auto-texts to open the Manage Auto-texts window.

  • Say make that an auto-text to turn selected text into an auto-text template.

  • Say next/previous field to move your cursor to the next/previous variable in your template.

  • Say first/last field to move your cursor to the first/last variable in your template.

  • Say accept defaults to clear all brackets and accept ALL default text in a template.

  • Say field complete to remove brackets and accept the text only in the CURRENT variable field.

Step-by-step commands

  • Say manage commands to open the Manage Step-by-step Commands window.

  • Say create a command​​​​​​​ or create step-by-step command​​​​​​​ to create a new step-by-step command.

Create templates (auto-texts)

Create auto-texts to insert blocks of text or templates with a voice command.

Follow these steps to create an auto-text:

  1. Say the appropriate command or select Manage Auto-texts from the DragonBar menu to open the Manage Auto-texts window.

  2. Select the + icon to create an auto-text.

  3. Enter a Name for your auto-text.

  4. Enter a Description for your auto-text (optional).

  5. Confirm the Spoken form (what you will say to insert the template).

  6. Enter your content (or copy it from your note).

  7. Select Apply all then Close.

Create custom commands (step-by-step commands)

Step-by-step commands can execute commonly-used keystrokes and actions on your desktop.

Follow these steps to create a step-by-step command:

  1. Say the appropriate command or select Manage Step-by-step commands from the DragonBar menu to open the Manage Step-by-step Commands window.

  2. Select +.

  3. Enter a Name for your command.

  4. Enter a Description (optional).

  5. Enter a Spoken form (this is what you'll say to activate the command).

  6. Select New Step and select a step type; repeat for each step/keyboard shortcut.

  7. Select Apply All then Close.

Follow these steps to edit a Step-by-step command:

  1. Open the Manage Step-by-step Commands window.​​​​​​​

  2. Select the step-by-step command you want to edit.

  3. Make desired changes.

  4. Select Apply All, then Close when you have made all your changes.

Follow these steps to delete a step-by-step command:

  1. Open the Manage Step-by-step Commands window.

  2. Select the Step-by-step command(s) you want to delete.

  3. Select X.

  4. Select Apply All, then Close when you have made all your changes.

Important reminders

  • Remember to turn off the microphone when you are finished dictating.

  • Correct commonly misrecognized words to increase accuracy and save time.

  • Position the cursor where you want your text to go...your text will be typed in the window in which your cursor is blinking.

  • Select Microphone from the DragonBar menu to quickly change microphones without logging off.

  • Access Log Off and Exit from the DragonBar menu.

  • Select Log Off to change specialty or language.

  • Select Exit when finished at a workstation to protect your profile from being accessed by other clinicians.
