Using a Microsoft account balance to make a purchase
Here's how to pay a past-due balance on your account using a Microsoft account balance: Find your past-due subscription on the Services & subscriptions page. The amount past due is shown in red. Select Pay now, and then follow the instructions to pay the balance due.
Get help with a digital code or gift card | Xbox Support

This means that the currency in which the gift card was purchased doesn’t match the currency used by your Microsoft account. For example, if you have a gift card in Canadian dollars, it can’t be redeemed to a U.S.-based Microsoft account, which uses U.S. dollars.

Remove a Microsoft account payment method
If you have a payment method for your Microsoft account that you're no longer using, or that has expired, you can remove it. Sign in to the Payment options page with your Microsoft account. Find the payment method you want to remove, and then select Remove.
