Information about profile picture synchronization in Microsoft 365
User navigates to a SharePoint Online page that holds a placeholder for a modern user photo object. The user photo is evaluated against the information stored in the User Profile for that user. For new users or users whose photo timestamp is older than 24 hours, a sync request is made.
Use emotes, gestures, and more with your avatar in Microsoft Teams

With avatars, you can establish better emotional connections with meeting participants without turning on your camera. Select your contextual emotes from a set of familiar emojis, and see your avatar animate with the same emotes and gestures.

Profile cards in Microsoft 365 - Microsoft Support
To see a profile card in Outlook mobile, tap a person's picture. To see the profile card in other apps, hover or click the person's photo or name. To see your own profile card, select your own profile picture. The profile card is also sometimes referred to as a contact card or people card. Here's an example of the card in Outlook on the web:

Add your profile photo to Microsoft 365 - Microsoft Support
Find a photo you want to use and store it on your computer, OneDrive, or other location you can get to. The photo needs to be smaller than 4 MB and can be a .png, jpg, or .gif file. Select the circle in the upper right hand corner of the page that shows your initials or an icon of a person.

Set My Picture options - Microsoft Support
To hide your picture, click Hide my picture, then click OK. Selecting Hide my picture removes your photo from your Lync display, but it may not prevent your picture from displaying in programs outside of Lync. To remove the picture from other programs as well: Click Edit or Remove Picture.
