Introduction
If you're a member of the Windows Insider Program, your Windows updates include preview features, fixes, and changes that are part of the program. Go to Settings > Windows Update > Update history to see a list of updates that have been installed on your device. This is also where you’ll see cumulative updates, .NET updates, Microsoft Defender updates, and other updates.
To learn what's inside the latest installed update, follow the "Learn more" links when available. Or look up the KB number listed as part of the name of the update using Copilot Search.
Note If you can’t find the link or information specific to an update, or if you land on this page, that update might not be broadly available yet. Try again in a couple of weeks.
This article serves as a central hub to help you understand the types of updates you may encounter as a Windows Insider. It also provides links to official Microsoft resources where you can learn more about each update type.
Windows Insider Program
This program gives you early access to new features and improvements before they're officially released. This means that the updates you see in your update history might contain experimental features and enhancements that are still being tested.
To find the latest news from Windows Insider, visit the Windows Insider blog. You'll find comprehensive articles and announcements about the latest preview builds, including descriptions of new features, bug fixes, and other changes.
When you participate in the Windows Insider Program, you might find various types of updates on the history page, including:
-
Feature updates introduce new functionalities and improvements to the Windows operating system.
-
Quality updates focus on enhancing the stability and performance of the system by fixing bugs and issues.
-
Driver updates ensure that hardware components work correctly with the latest version of Windows.
-
Security updates address vulnerabilities and enhance the security of the system.
-
Servicing updates include changes to the servicing stack, which is the component that installs Windows updates.
