Excel for Microsoft 365

Agent Mode in Excel helps you build, edit, and analyze workbooks side by side with Copilot. Agent Mode in Excel now supports working with Claude AI models from Anthropic, to build workbooks directly in Excel. 

Make sure that you have access to Agent Mode in Excel. You must have a supported Microsoft 365 license to use Agent Mode in Excel.

Try Claude 

Note: For enterprise customers, your admin must enable Anthropic as a Microsoft sub-processor in the Microsoft 365 Admin Center before you can use Claude with Agent Mode in Excel. 

  1. Open Excel and sign in to your Microsoft 365 account.

  2. Select Home > Copilot to open Copilot chat.

  3. Select the Tools menu  The tools menu button icon. and choose Agent Mode.

  4. Select the AI model switcher and choose a Claude model from the list. You can also choose Auto and let Agent Mode automatically select the right model for you.Choose the model you prefer to use with Agent Mode in Excel

  5. Describe what you’d like to create or edit in the input field.

Notes and Limitations

Claude is available only during an active session. When you close Excel or end your session, Copilot reverts to the default Generative AI Model for Microsoft 365.
