Update Surface Headphones

Get the best experience from your Surface Headphones 2 by keeping them up to date with the latest improvements. To install updates for your Surface Headphones, use the Surface Audio app.

To update your headphones more quickly, use the included USB cable instead of updating them over Bluetooth.

  1. Set up your Surface Headphones in the Surface Audio app. Learn how

  2. Plug the USB cable into your Windows 10 PC, then plug the other end into the USB-C port on your headphones.

  3. Open the Surface Audio app, and then select Devices > Surface Headphones.

  4. Select Updates and see if any updates are available. If an update is available, select Update now.

The update will take a few minutes to download, and you can use your headphones during this time. After the download, your headphones will restart and the update will take a few minutes to install. If your Surface Headphones don't restart after a few minutes, press and release the power button quickly to turn on your headphones and reconnect.

  2. Open the Surface Audio app, then tap Settings next to Surface Headphones.

  3. In Device Settings, tap Updates. Tap Continue anyway if you want to update your headphones using your phone instead of on your PC using a USB cable, which is faster.

  4. If an update is available, tap Update Now. To check for updates anytime, tap Check for updates.

The update will take a while to download and install (up to an hour or more), and you can use your headphones during this time. (If you use them during this time, it can delay the update.) After the download, your headphones will restart and the update will take a few minutes to install. During the installation, your headphones will appear to be off. If your Surface Headphones don't restart after a few minutes, press and release the power button quickly to turn on your headphones and reconnect.
