Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You apply cumulative update package 8 for Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 or a later version.

  • You have an SSAS database that has multiple data sources. Some data sources are stored in the Multidimensional OLAP (MOLAP) partitions. Other data sources are stored in the Relational OLAP (ROLAP) partitions.

  • You run a Multidimensional Expressions (MDX) query against the SSAS database.

In this scenario, an incorrect result may return.

Cause

This issue occurs because of a regression that is introduced in cumulative update package 8 for SQL Server 2008 R2 or SQL Server 2012.

Cumulative Update 4 for SQL Server 2012 SP1

Note Both Cumulative Update 3 and Cumulative Update 4 for SQL Server 2012 SP1 can resolve this issue. We recommend that installing Cumulative Update 4 that is described in the following KB article:

Workaround

To work around this issue, use a single data source instead of multiple data sources in the SSAS database.
