Microsoft Teams Free provides meeting options to help meeting organizers manage participation, maintain a safe environment, and ensure smooth meetings.

Meeting roles

There are three roles to choose from: organizer, presenter, and attendee. Organizers and presenters share the most permissions, while attendees are more controlled.

The organizeris the person who creates the meeting. They can:

  • Set up Meeting Options (bypass lobby, who can present, who can share screen)

  • Remove participants

  • Mute participants

  • End the meeting for all

  • Share their screen

  • Control access settings

Presenters and attendees have similar permissions. They can:

  • Join via link or lobby

  • Share their audio and video

  • Share their screen (presenters only)

  • Use the chat

  • Raise a hand

Note: When setting up a meeting, if someone is chosen as a presenter, they have control over their own audio and video while in the meeting. If everyone is a presenter, the organizer loses the ability to change audio and video settings for everyone unless everyone is removed from the presenter role.
