Microsoft is introducing age assurance to help provide age-appropriate experiences and meet local legal requirements.
What is age assurance?
Age assurance confirms that your account meets the minimum age requirement using approved methods to provide you with an age-appropriate experience.
We use the process to:
- Keep our communities safe and welcoming.
- Follow the laws and regulations in each country/region.
- Make sure you can access features and content available in your region by verifying your age.
When do I need to verify my age?
You may be asked to verify your age when accessing age-restricted content or features.
What happens if I don't verify my age?
Your account will be treated as unverified, and you may not be able to access certain content or features.
Note
When signed in to Microsoft Teams for personal use (a non-work or non-school accounts) in Brazil, certain feature restrictions may also be applied per the local law.
What's restricted if my age isn't verified?
If you're an adult and choose not to complete age assurance, you won't be able to view or make new purchases or downloads of games and apps rated 18+.
What's not affected?
Games and content you already own. Any mature-rated games or content already tied to your account will remain accessible and playable.
What age verification options are available?
To access some features, you may need to verify your age. There are several options available.
You can verify your age using one of the following options:
- Facial age estimation (selfie)
- Uploading a document
- Log in to [Government system] (e.g. Singpass)
Note
If you don’t verify your age, your account will be treated as unverified. You can check your age assurance status on your Microsoft account.
How is my age verification information used and protected?
Your age assurance information is used only to verify your age. Multiple age assurance options are available, provided by our partners Yoti and VerifyMe and include facial age estimation, and uploading a document. It is securely processed by our trusted age assurance partner and deleted after the process is complete.

How long does the verification process take?
Most verifications finish in seconds, but some may take a few minutes depending on the method you choose.
Do you need to verify your age more than once?
Usually, age verification is only required once per account. However, there are some rare cases where you may be asked to verify your age again, such as changing your personal account details or moving to a different country/region.
Where do you check your age verification status?
You can check your age verification status in your Microsoft account profile.
- Go to account.microsoft.com and sign in with your Microsoft personal account.
- Go to Your info.
- Navigate to the Profile info section.
- Look for the Age verification section.
Your account’s age verification status will be shown there.
Countries/regions where you can verify your age
If you are in Australia, Brazil or Singapore you can verify your age now by scanning the QR code or selecting the Verify your age button below.
If you are in the United Kingdom, you can verify your age now by selecting the Verify your age button below.
