Review the change history of your workbook with Copilot in Excel

Use Copilot in Excel to explore edits to your workbook. Copilot helps you catch up on recent changes, identify who changed a cell and when, and summarize changes over a certain time period.

Catch up on changes to a shared workbook

Ask Copilot for a summary when you return to a workbook that other people have edited. You can review changes across the workbook or ask about a specific sheet, range, or cell.

Catch me up on the changes to this workbook.

Summarize the changes made to this workbook in the past seven days.

Tip

Include a worksheet name, cell, range, or time period in your prompt to narrow the results.

Find out who made changes to a workbook

Ask Copilot who made changes to specific worksheets, tables, or cells. Copilot can also describe all changes made by a particular user, or changes made by Copilot itself.

Who changed the values on the Forecast sheet, and what did they change?

About workbook change history

Copilot only reports changes that are available in the workbook's change history. Excel tracks supported changes for up to 365 days. Some edits might not appear if they were made with an unsupported version of Excel or by using a feature that isn't tracked.

To inspect the underlying history yourself, select the Review tab in Excel, and then select Show Changes. For more information about tracked changes, see Show changes that were made in a workbook and Get help with Show Changes in Excel.

To restore multiple changes or recover an older version of a workbook, use Version History.
