Windows Secure Boot certificate expiration
Note
- Windows Secure Boot certificate expiration
- Important: Secure Boot certificates used by most Windows devices are set to expire starting in June 2026. Microsoft has been updating these certificates on consumer and non-managed business devices for the past months. Devices that haven’t received the newer certificates will continue to start and operate normally, and standard Windows updates will continue to install. We will continue to install the newer certificates via Windows updates in the coming months.
- You can check your PC status on the Windows Security app. If you are an IT administrator, follow the guidance on the Secure Boot Playbook for Windows clients and Windows Server.

Known issues in this update
Signing in with a Microsoft account might fail for Microsoft Teams Free and other apps
Symptom
After installing this update, you might experience an issue signing into apps with a Microsoft account. Even when the device has a working internet connection, an error might appear during sign in that indicates a lack of internet connection and prevents access to Microsoft services and apps such as Microsoft Teams Free and OneDrive.
Note
Only sign ins using Microsoft accounts are affected. Businesses using Microsoft Entra ID for app authentication will not experience this issue.
Other applications affected include, but are not limited to, Microsoft Edge, Excel, Word, and Microsoft 365 Copilot. Whenever a feature in these applications requires signing into a Microsoft account, a similar error message can be encountered.
Workaround
This issue is addressed in KB5085518.
Reset this PC might fail with the March 2026 Hotpatch security update or later
Symptom
Devices that have installed the March 2026 Hotpatch security update (KB5079420) or later might experience failures when performing a Push Button Reset (Reset this PC) when using the "Keep my files" or "Remove everything" options.
After the first phase of the offline reset, users see a black boot screen. The reset doesn't complete as expected. Instead, the device restarts to the desktop and displays the following error message: “There was a problem resetting your PC. No changes were made.”
This issue affects Windows Autopatch–managed commercial devices that meet all the following conditions:
- The organization manages the device with Windows Autopatch.
- Hotpatch is enabled to apply security updates.
- Monthly security updates are installed without restarting the device.
This behavior is limited to Hotpatch servicing window when Hotpatch-enabled devices install March 2026 or later updates.
This issue doesn't affect retail consumer devices, devices that do not use Hotpatch, or devices that are not managed with Windows Autopatch.
Workaround
This issue is addressed in KB5083769.
