Create a free business work account
You can create a work account by using Microsoft’s small‑business sign‑up flow, which automatically creates a Microsoft Entra ID tenant and the first admin work account, with no IT involvement required. All you need is a working email address.Â
Steps to create a work account
1. Go to Microsoft’s business work account sign‑up page
Start at Microsoft’s business work account entry point, which is designed for small and very small businesses and does not require an existing tenant or IT admin. Â
2. Enter a business email address
At Sign in or create your account, enter the email address you want to associate with the work account, and select Next.Â
Notes:Â
-
It can be an existing email address
-
It does not need to be a Microsoft address
-
It does not need to be a custom domain yet
-
The given email will become the primary sign‑inidentity for the work account.
3. Confirm account creation
If we determine you need a new work account, you’ll be invited to Set up an account.Â
Note:Â If the email cannot be used, select Change my email to start with another email address.Â
4. Create a new billing account
Enter your name, address and other details required for billing, and select Next.Â
5. Choose how you’ll sign in
Choose a domain, username and password for your account and select Next.Â
Tips:Â
-
You can only change the suggested username during the account setup.
-
You can change the suggested domain either now or later.
6. Add a payment methodÂ
Add your credit card details.Â
7. Add security to the account.Â
We recommend adding multi-factor authentication to your account.Â
8. Note your new account detailsÂ
When account creation has completed, make sure you keep a record of your account sign-in email address and your Tenant ID details.Â
You can now sign in to Microsoft services using the new work account, for example to:
Important:Â Ensure you sign in with the new <username>@<organization>.onmicrosoft.com email address and not the personal email address you provided at the start.Â
9. (Optional) Add a custom domainÂ
After account creation, the user may optionally:Â
-
Add a custom domain (e.g. @company.co.uk)
-
Create additional work users
-
Purchase and assign licenses
Note:Â These actions are not required to create the initial work account and can be done later. Â
