Report messages in Microsoft Teams

If you see a concerning chat or channel message with internal or external users in Teams, you can report it as either a security risk or inappropriate content.

Notes:

  • Depending on your organization, you may not be able to choose your reason for reporting the message, or you may not see the option to report a message. Check with your admin to confirm whether reporting is enabled.

  • Currently, if you're using Copilot in Teams, you can't report a message in the Copilot app.

To report a message

  1. Go to the chat or channel message and select More options  Microsoft Teams more options icon > Report this message.

  2. Choose the reason why you want to report the message. Reasons can include:

    • Security concern - spam, phishing, or malicious content

    • Not a security concern - incorrectly identified as a concern

      Notes:

      • Selecting this option opens a text box where you can enter an optional explanation.

      • Only messages that have URL warnings can be reported as not a security concern.

    • Inappropriate - harassment, violence, nudity, or disturbing content

  3. Select Report. You'll receive a message confirming your report was sent.
