What are the minimum requirements to use file drag & drop?

File drag & drop requires a Samsung device running Link to Windows (pre-installed) version 1.0.52.30 or higher. Your Android phone and PC must be connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

A cable connection between devices is not required.

What types of files can I drag & drop?

File drag & drop supports the transfer of all file types, except for folders and files backed up to the cloud. You can transfer up to 100 files of any type at a time, but no single file can be larger than 512MB in size.

How do I use file drag & drop?

Whether you're transferring content from your phone to your PC, or from your PC to your phone, you'll first need to open the Phone Link on your PC and go to Phone screen.

Note: You can currently only drag from your phone’s Gallery app or from the Samsung My Files app.

To drag from Samsung's My Files app (version 11.1.00.121 or later):

  1. Once you've opened Phone screen in the Phone Link , use your mouse to navigate to any folder in My Files.

  2. Long-press the file until a check mark appears, then release. If you'd like to select additional files, you can do so by tapping them.

  3. Use your mouse to long-press the files you've selected, and a thumbnail will appear. Drag the files to your desired location on your PC. The cursor will change to indicate when you're able to drop the selected files.

To drag from your phone's Gallery app:

  1. Once you've opened Phone screen in the Phone Link, use your mouse to navigate to your Albums and then select one.

  2. Long-press any photo until a check mark appears, then release. If you'd like to select additional photos, you can do so by tapping them.

  3. Use your mouse to long-press the photos you've selected, and a thumbnail will appear. Drag the photos to your desired location on your PC. The cursor will change to say Copy when you're able to drop the selected photos.

  1. Once you've opened Phone screen in the Phone Link, use your mouse to select the files you'd like to transfer and then drag them to the Phone Link window. The cursor will change to say Copy when you're able to drop.

  2. Release the mouse and your files will start transferring. A progress indicator will show for a few seconds.

When a successful file transfer is completed, you can either tap the notification that appears on your Android device, or navigate to your Internal Storage > Downloads folder to view your files.

If you drag & drop the same file again, a duplicate copy will be transferred to your device.

If you have an app open that supports receiving files, the app will prompt you where to drop the files, and where they will be stored.

I’m having problems dragging files from PC to phone

You may see a red circle when attempting to drag files. This indicates that you can't successfully drag files.

This could happen for any of the following reasons:

  • A previous drag & drop file transfer is still in progress. Wait until this has finished, and then try again.

  • A file or photo being transferred is not supported. For example, if even just one of the selected items you are dragging is a folder and not a file, the app will not initiate the transfer.

  • You're trying to drag more than 100 files of any type at a time, or any of the selected files is larger than 512MB in size.

Important: Minimizing the Phone Link during drag & drop will cancel the transfer process and you’ll have to start over. Keep the app window open while using file drag & drop.
