Description of the security update for Word 2013: May 9, 2017

This security update resolves vulnerabilities in Microsoft Office that could allow remote code execution if a user opens a specially crafted Office file. To learn more about these vulnerabilities, see Microsoft Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures CVE-2017-0254.

Note To apply this security update, you must have the release version of Service Pack 1 for Microsoft Office 2013 installed on the computer.

Improvements and fixes

This security update fixes the following nonsecurity issues:
  • When you open a document that has a legacy shape in Word 2013, Word 2013 may freeze.


  • The 32-bit version of Outlook 2013 may freeze or crash on high-resolution or high-DPI devices. Some interfaces such as message content may not be displayed correctly. This update will fix most of these issues.
